The monthly EMI on every ₹1,00,000 of loan, at 8% to 24% a year for 1 to 5 years. Multiply by your lakhs: at 12% for 3 years ₹1 lakh costs ₹3,321 a month, so ₹5 lakh costs about 5 × ₹3,321 = ₹16,605 (exactly ₹16,607). Type your loan amount to scale the chart.
How to read the EMI per lakh chart
- Find your interest rate in the left column. It is the yearly reducing rate banks quote. Under it is the same rate in sekda: ₹ per ₹100 a month on what you still owe.
- Go across to your loan period. The box is the monthly EMI on ₹1,00,000.
- Multiply by your loan in lakhs: ₹5 lakh is 5 × the box, ₹50,000 is half of it. Or type your amount above and every box changes.
- Switch the boxes to Total interest or Flat rate to see what each loan costs overall.
EMI on ₹1 lakh at 12% for 1 to 5 years
| Loan period | EMI | Total interest | Flat rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 year (12 EMIs) | ₹8,885 | ₹6,618 | 6.62% |
| 2 years (24 EMIs) | ₹4,707 | ₹12,977 | 6.49% |
| 3 years (36 EMIs) | ₹3,321 | ₹19,575 | 6.52% |
| 4 years (48 EMIs) | ₹2,633 | ₹26,407 | 6.6% |
| 5 years (60 EMIs) | ₹2,224 | ₹33,476 | 6.7% |
A longer loan has a smaller EMI but costs more interest in rupees: ₹6,618 over 1 year, ₹33,476 over 5 years. The flat rate is that interest as simple interest on the full loan. It looks lower than 12% only because every EMI repays part of the loan, so you hold less of it as the months pass. See flat vs reducing rates.
The formula behind every box
EMI = P × r × (1 + r)ⁿ ÷ ((1 + r)ⁿ − 1)
P is ₹1,00,000, r the yearly rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100 and n the months. At 12% for 36 months it gives ₹3,321.43, which banks round to ₹3,321. Worked by hand in the EMI formula guide.
Already paying an EMI? Find its rate
This chart goes from a rate to an EMI. If you know your EMI but not the rate, the EMI to interest rate calculator works backwards from it, with the processing fee. If a dealer quoted a flat rate, convert it first with the flat to reducing rate calculator: the chart uses reducing rates only.

How do I calculate EMI per lakh?
Read it from the chart, or use the EMI formula with P = ₹1,00,000, r = the yearly rate ÷ 1,200 and n = the months. At 12% for 3 years: r = 0.01 and n = 36, which gives ₹3,321.43. Banks round it to ₹3,321. For any other amount, multiply by the number of lakhs.
What is the EMI on a ₹5 lakh loan for 5 years?
Multiply the per-lakh EMI by 5. At 10% a year for 5 years ₹1 lakh costs ₹2,125 a month, so ₹5 lakh costs about ₹10,625; the exact EMI is ₹10,624. At 12% it is ₹11,122. Type ₹5,00,000 as the loan amount to see every rate at once.
What is the EMI on ₹50,000?
Half the ₹1 lakh EMI. At 12% a year, ₹1 lakh over 1 year costs ₹8,885 a month, so ₹50,000 costs ₹4,442. Over 2 years at 12% it is ₹2,354. Choose the ₹50K chip above to halve the whole chart.
Why does a longer loan cost more if the EMI is lower?
Because you keep the money longer, so interest runs for more months. At 12%, ₹1 lakh over 1 year costs ₹6,618 in interest with an EMI of ₹8,885. Over 5 years the EMI falls to ₹2,224, but the interest rises to ₹33,476. Switch the chart to Total interest to compare.
Is the rate in the chart flat or reducing?
Reducing, the rate banks quote: interest is charged each month only on what you still owe. 12% reducing is ₹1 sekda a month on the balance. As simple interest on the full loan, 12% for 3 years works out to 6.52% flat. If you were quoted a flat rate, convert it with the flat to reducing rate calculator.
